Top Homeless Organizations in Manchester Are Merging

Jack Rodolico/NHPR

The two leading organizations serving the homeless in Manchester are joining forces.

The non-profits New Horizons and Families in Transition are merging, as of January 1.

New Horizons operates a soup kitchen, homeless shelter and food pantry downtown. Families in Transition provides affordable housing and services for those struggling financially in Manchester, Concord and Dover.

Interim Executive Director Michelle Casale of New Horizons says the move will hopefully lead to improved care.

“We feel that within the Manchester area homeless services system there is some fragmentation – some people at times may have fallen through different gaps," Casale said.

Last year more than 1,000 people in Manchester needed emergency shelter - up from previous years.
