Sununu Nominates PUC Commissioner to Lead Department of Environmental Services

After pulling his first nominee for the position, Gov. Chris Sununu brought forward a new nomination to oversee the state’s environmental agency at Wednesday’s executive council meeting: Public Utilities Commissioner Robert Scott, of Bow.

Speaking after the council meeting, Sununu praised Scott's past experience on the PUC and within the broader environmental services sphere.

"He was formerly the head of the air resources council at DES, he’s an expert in a lot of different areas, incredibly well-read, and he understands a lot of the technical details of what we do not just in terms of energy at the PUC but with the environmental background as well," Sununu said. "He knows the department, knows a lot of the players, and I think he’s going to do a great job as environmental services commissioner.”

Sununu’s first DES nominee, Bedford businessman Peter Kujawski, faced some skepticism from executive councilorsover his lack of direct experience in environmental regulation.

At his public hearing, Kujawski told executive councilors Sununu floated the possibility of him serving in several state posts, and "the Governor unselfishly offered me a position as a vice-president of a company that's moving to New Hampshire." The governor's team later denied that, saying Kujawski "misspoke."
