Twenty years after a shocking school shooting at Colorado’s Columbine High School left 12 students and one teacher dead, NHPR presents special coverage looking at the issue of guns in America.

NHPR will air “1A and Guns & America Special Coverage: The Anniversary of Columbine” on Sunday, April 21 at 6 p.m. The program will feature the combined reporting of three different public media entities: 1A and Host Joshua Johnson; Guns & America – a national reporting collaborative comprising ten public media newsrooms all reporting on the issue; and KUNC – community public radio for Northern Colorado, based in Greeley.

The one-hour special will look at the significance of the Columbine anniversary and trace how school shootings have become more frequent over the past 20 years. Gun violence, access and ownership continue to be among our nation’s most divisive issues. The hour will feature voices from across the belief spectrum, but will also highlight people who lived through the Columbine shooting and current students who grapple with its legacy.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: This program was originally scheduled to air Thursday, April 18, but was pre-empted due to special coverage around the release of the Mueller Report.

To The Best Of Our Knowlege, which usually airs in the Sunday 6 p.m. time slot, will not air on Sunday, April 21, in order to accomodate this special broadcast.
