Senate Kills Bill Allowing Electronic Keno

New Hampshire's Senate has killed a bill that allowed electronic keno games in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Supporters had estimated the measure would raise $9 million annually if electronic keno is offered at 250 sites. The bill gave local communities the final say on allowing the game.

Opponents argued the damage to communities of adding an electronic game to the lottery portfolio outweighs the benefit of more revenue for New Hampshire and hurts its image as a family-friendly state.

Other states offer keno, including Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. Connecticut recently approved keno, but doesn't offer it yet.

The Senate, which has repeatedly passed casino bills, voted without debate Thursday to kill the keno bill.
