After learning of allegations of inappropriate behavior in the workplace, Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) terminated its contracts with Garrison Keillor and his private media companies on Wednesday, November 29.
As a result of the termination, MPR and American Public Media (APM) ended distribution and broadcast of The Writer’s Almanac, and rebroadcasts of The Best of a Prairie Home Companion hosted by Garrison Keillor. MPR and APM also announced they would change the name of APM’s current version of A Prairie Home Companion, hosted by Chris Thile.
For listeners of NHPR:
- As the program is no longer available, NHPR will cease broadcasting The Writer’s Almanac at 6:30 p.m., effective today. In its place for now, NHPR will broadcast more news from All Things Considered - but may consider other program options in the future.
- NHPR will continue to carry A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile on Saturday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. According to Minnesota Public Radio, the weekly show will continue but with some exciting changes. Over the coming weeks and months, the show name will be changed, Prairie Home-related brands within the broadcast will be phased out, and the program will evolve even further.
