Poll Shows Support for Proposed 'Marsy's Law' in N.H.

A new poll shows widespread support in New Hampshire for a constitutional amendment that would give crime victims more say in courtroom proceedings.

According to the poll, 85 percent of New Hampshire voters would support a constitutional amendment known as Marsy’s Law.

The amendment would require that victims be notified of all court proceedings involving their offender. It would also give them the right to be heard in things like sentencing hearings or plea deal negotiations.

The amendment also has strong bipartisan support from lawmakers, including Governor Chris Sununu and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate.

Some, including the New Hampshire ACLU, have expressed concern about the amendment, citing due process for those prosecuted and administrative costs for smaller court systems.

The poll, which was produced for Marsy's Law for NH, was conducted earlier this month by Public Opinion Strategies and Anzalone Liszt Grove Research.
