N.H. State Rep. Charged With Sexual Assault Of 16 Year-Old

Portsmouth Police Department

A New Hampshire House Rep. from Hudson has been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

Twenty-nine-year-old Eric Schleien was arrested by Portsmouth Police in April resulting from an incident dating back to last July.

The Rockingham County Attorney’s Office is now taking over the case, which includes one count of misdemeanor sexual assault and two counts of misdemeanor simple assault.

County Attorney Patricia Conway says he will be arraigned in August.

“The County Attorney’s Office takes sexual assault and any kind of physical assault against the community especially against our younger people and children very seriously; therefore, we will prosecute this case to the best of our ability,” Conway said.

Gov. Chris Sununu in a statement Friday applauded authorities for taking "aggressive action to fully investigate these disturbing allegations."

House Speaker Shawn Jasper also referred to the charges as disturbing, adding that if the two-term Republican Rep is convicted - he expects him to resign immediately.
