It's official, New Hampshire's largest city has its first female Mayor.
The room was packed as Joyce Craig took the oath of office at the Radisson Hotel off Elm Street. The scene was lively with loud cheers throughout the entire inauguration.
During her remarks, Craig reiterated her campaign platform of continuing to combat the opioid crisis, building up the city’s schools, and bringing more businesses to the Queen City.
“I have consistently heard this message from some of the city’s biggest and best employers – as employers with an eye on tomorrow’s workforce, their message is clear – we must make improving our school system a priority.”
And the 48th Mayor sounded pretty eager to hit the ground running.
“Today is the first day of a new Manchester – I am honored to be your Mayor, now let’s get to work," Craig said followed by loud cheers.
Craig beat 4-time incumbent Ted Gatsas in November by more than 1,500 votes. She’s the first Democrat to hold the seat since 2006.
Dozens of other elected officials were also sworn in Tuesday, including members of the city’s school committee and board of aldermen.
