Gov. Maggie Hassan is nominating Michael York as Acting Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Resources, following the death of Commissioner Van McLeod last month.

York has been New Hampshire State Librarian since 1999. He previously served as the university librarian at the University of New Hampshire and as the library director at Colby Sawyer College.

Hassan also is nominating Col. Robert Quinn, director of the New Hampshire State Police, as the Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Safety. Hassan said his experience in the Narcotics Investigations Unit and leadership in the heroin and opioid epidemic have prepared him for public safety challenges.

Hassan was nominating both Wednesday at the Executive Council meeting in Nashua. The Council must approve the nominations.
