Rescues in New Hampshire’s mountains have been on the rise this year and state officials expect the holiday weekend to only add to those numbers.
Over Memorial Day Weekend seven hikers needed rescues in the course of just two days. Officials expect similar activity for the July 4th Weekend.
That’s why Colonel Kevin Jordan of Fish and Game is advising people to keep in mind some simple hiking tips. Pack extra water, a flashlight, a jacket…AND remember this:
“The cellphone is not a survival tool - I can’t state that enough – and I think people rely way too heavily on that technology," Jordan said.
Jordan says in the mountains there’s limited service and phones batteries can die fast.
