FBI Offers Reward in Attempted Extortion Case in Hollis

FBI

The FBI now has a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of people behind what it described as a series of extortion attempts in Hollis since 2017.

The FBI says that the Hollis family was subjected to multiple extortion attempts, harassment, and animal cruelty.

The family that runs the Rickety Ranch farm received extortion letters that were sent in an attempt to collect $250,000, according to the FBI.

"In exchange for the payment, the sender offered to spare the family from harm, and claimed to be capable of settling their ongoing disputes with the Town of Hollis, New Hampshire," reads the FBI announcement. "In addition to the letters, the family was the target of various attacks over the last two years. Thousands of dollars in damage was done to their property, including their vehicles and barn."

The FBI staffs ananonymous tip line and people with information may also call the FBI's Boston Field Office at (857) 386-2000.

The AP reports that the farm's Facebook page describes it as an educational rescue farm "for kids and run by kids," also offering eggs and other products. A man answering the phone said he was the owner, but declined to comment.
