Amid Challenges, Manchester VA to Hold Town Hall Meeting

The Manchester VA Medical Center will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday in Rochester.

The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, is a chance for veterans to ask questions of administrators tasked with managing significant challenges at the medical center.

The Manchester VA has been recovering from flooding caused by a burst pipe. It's also being investigated for widely-publicized allegations of substandard care and unsanitary conditions.

The interim director of the Manchester VA, Al Montoya, is scheduled to attend the meeting.

Two of the staff members removed after the Boston Globe's first report last month - medical center director Danielle Ocker and chief of staff James Schlosser - have yet to be replaced.

VA Secretary David Shulkin asked local and regional leaders to "immediately" begin a national recruitment effort for these positions, but sources say those jobs have not been posted because the VA investigations have not been completed.

VA officials say that those jobs will be announced "as soon as possible."
