Odd Couple: Lena Dunham and Abby Wambach are Clinton's Latest Surrogates

Actor and writer Lena Dunham and retired U.S. women’s soccer star Abby Wambach began two days of campaigning for Hillary Clinton on Friday. They join Bill and Chelsea Clinton, Al Franken, and other celebrities crisscrossing the state these days on Clinton’s behalf.

Wambach and Dunham may seem like an odd couple. But the New Hampshire primary is only 4 weeks away, and that means it’s surrogate season. At noon on a school day, starry-eyed 10 and 11 year olds, along with 30 and 40-somethings packed into the restaurant Street to see soccer star and gay icon Abby Wambach chant "I believe that she will win! I believe that she will win!"

They squeezed among a crowd of Lena Dunham’s mostly millennial,  mostly female fans.

"I do believe nothing can send a stronger message to this country and the world at large than electing a competent, strong, essential woman to the highest office that we have,” Dunham told the crowd.

According to at least one NBC poll, Bernie Sanders has been gaining popularity among millennials – the largest voting generation in this election, nationwide.  There’s no doubt Clinton’s hoping these two celebrities will help get more young votes on her side.
