New data shows that Southern New Hampshire University spends more on advertising and marketing than any other private, non-profit college in the country.
The report from the Chronicle of Higher Education shows that SNHU spent more than $130 million on advertising and marketing in 2017.
Former UNH President Mark Huddleston’s employment agreement is getting some big changes. He’ll be returning to UNH this year, making a $20,000 salary as an adjunct instructor in the UNH Professional Development and Training department.
According to the agreement, Huddleston will present at various leadership conferences and institutes, and provide “consulting services” for future curriculum in that department this year. He will also be working with state public officials through UNH Extension.
The University of New Hampshire's Franklin Pierce School of Law launched its new hybrid law degree program Wednesday.
The juris doctor degree program is primarily online, with some in-person learning on the Concord campus. The available hybrid JD program is in intellectual property, technology, and information law.

The Portsmouth City Council voted Monday night to apply to acquire the downtown McIntyre property, and legally bind the city into a public-private partnership with the developer Redgate/Kane.
The city is applying to the national parks service to acquire the federal property, through a program called the Historic Property Surplus Program. It would allow the Portsmouth to acquire and redevelop the McIntyre site at no cost to the city.
New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald announced at a press briefing today that his office would not file charges against three Belmont police officers who shot and killed a man in June.

Bill Binnie surprised some at a public hearing in Portsmouth Wednesday by proposing a new redevelopment plan for the federal McIntyre building.
Over 100 residents attended the public hearing discuss the site's future.
Councilors called the hearing in response to a petition from a group called Revisit McIntyre, which is critical of the redevelopment plan. That petition gathered over 600 approved signatures.
The University System of New Hampshire voted to move forward with negotiations two major development projects at UNH this morning.
The projects include replacing two undergraduate residence halls with a boutique hotel and parking garage, and building a new, privately-owned graduate housing complex at 66 Main Street in Durham.
UNH will be working with Elliott Sidewalk Communities on both of the projects. That company is set to purchase the Main St. property, and will completely fund the cost of the hotel and parking garage.
The University of New Hampshire updated former president Mark Huddleston’s contract to include the promise of a year of full salary after retirement in order to help the school weather a financial crisis, according to a top official with the state university system.
Former University of New Hampshire president Mark Huddleston continued to collect a $425,000 salary in the year after he retired from his position in June 2018. That put Huddleston slightly behind UNH’s current president, Jim Dean, who earns $455,000 a year since taking over for Huddleston last summer.
The Washington Post has released data obtained by the Drug Enforcement Administration that is painting a clearer picture of the prevalence of opioid drug use in New Hampshire.
According to the data, 280 million oxycodone and hydrocodone pills were supplied to the state between 2006 and 2012. That’s about 36 pills per person, per year.
Governor Sununu cut the ribbon Wednesday for the opening of a new transitional home for mothers recovering from substance abuse.
The new facility in Rochester is named Abi's Place after Abi Lizotte, a young mother who died of substance abuse in December 2017. She played a critical role in the opening of Hope on Haven Hill, a substance abuse treatment center for homeless women with children, also in Rochester.
Congresswoman Annie Kuster describes conditions at border facilities in Texas as "inhumane."
Kuster visited the facilities in McAllen and Brownsville this past weekend with a congressional delegation.
She says she saw overcrowding, and the abnormally high volume of migrants that have been passing through the facility.
"The night before we were there, they had picked up 2,000 migrants. So the volume coming through the facilities at this point is extremely high. They told us it was the highest it had been since 1986,” Kuster said.
The Portsmouth city council postponed a vote Monday night to propose a plan to the National Parks Service that would hand the federal McIntyre property over to the city. Councilors will take it up at their meeting on Aug. 12.
Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke decried the treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers at the U.S. border while campaigning Friday night in Peterborough.
O’Rourke spoke at one of many “Lights for Liberty” vigils held across the state and the country. The vigils were part of a nationwide campaign to protest reported conditions at immigrant detention centers.

“We believe that these child prisons should be closed immediately, and the children released to their relatives and extended families in the U.S.,” reads a press release from Lights for Liberty event organizers in Hanover.
Some rural hospitals in New Hampshire are facing challenges as for-profit health centers, like urgent care facilities, continue to open across the state. A new bill signed into law by Gov. Chris Sununu last week created a committee to address that issue and look into possible solutions.
For-profit health clinics like urgent care can provide more affordable health services to patients. But some hospitals have faced financial losses due to those clinics opening up nearby.
A USDA plan to euthanize nuisance-causing geese in Barnstead has been postponed after pushback from some residents. The roundup was originally scheduled for June 26, according to an email sent to Barnstead residents.
Numerous employees were laid off today today at Oracle + Dyn in Manchester, one of the Millyard's biggest employers.
Oracle has been conducting layoffs worldwide since March.
In a statement, Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig called Oracle's decision to lay off a significant number of employees in Manchester quote "upsetting and disappointing."
It is currently unknown how many workers received layoff notices.
