Sununu Goes After Democrats In Speech To New England Council

Jason Moon for NHPR

In remarks Tuesday to the New England Council, a corporate group that typically steers a middle course politically, Gov. Chris Sununu said Democrats in Concord have embraced extremism and latched on to what he termed a clown car of presidential hopefuls.

Sununu urged the crowd to vote for President Trump.

He also said the budget deal, which was hailed on all sides when it came out, amounted to Democrats doing it his way.

"Long story short, they waited until the 11th hour then came back, they knew they did not have a leg to stand on, and we were able to show them in an innovative way, how to get some of the spending that they wanted, most of the spending that they wanted without the tax increase.”

Sununu has been traveling the state this week handing our ceremonial checks to cities and towns, to highlight increases in local aid included in the compromise budget.

Sununu had included little of that aid in his original spending plan. Democrats had prioritized it.
