N.H. School Bus Drivers OK Strike But Agree To Hold Off On Job Action

File

Dozens of school bus drivers in New Hampshire may not show up to work this week. That’s after the union representing these drivers voted Monday night to go on strike over an ongoing contract dispute with the bus company First Student.

But the union, Teamsters Local 633, agreed to wait until after a final negotiation meeting this week in Washington, D.C.

The possibility of a strike has been looming for weeks as drivers say First Student, which is based in Ohio, has failed to make proper payments to its employees' retirement funds, specifically to its Belmont drivers.

First Student has transportation contracts with dozens of other school districts in New Hampshire including Derry, Salem and Timberlane.

Several schools have already issuedstatements to parents with detailed plans if a strike does occur this week such as extending drop-off hours before and after school, issuing traffic accommodations and additional parking for high school students.
