The state Senate is taking up a bill that would give roughly $3 million in additional funding to various substance abuse and addiction related programs.
The upper chamber is poised to vote on a bill including the money Thursday.
The bill also requires the Governor's Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Treatment and Recovery to begin reporting to the Legislature as well as the governor's office.
The bill includes about $125,000 for the attorney general's office to hire a new prosecutor on drug cases, as well as $500,000 for peer recovery support services.
It also gives $2.5 million to the governor's commission for prevention, treatment and recovery services or affordable housing programs.
Substance abuse programs have been a key area of focus for the Legislature this session.
