A former accountant for the state Liquor Commission has been charged with stealing more than $79,000 from the commission over several years.
Indictments in Merrimack County Superior Court charge 52-year-old Dorothy Champagne with 36 counts of theft. The court papers say she electronically transferred $79,490.51 to a bank account or credit cards between June 2011 and October 2014. The amounts ranged from about $1,100 to about $3,600.
The liquor commission confirmed that Champagne, who's from Hebron, was fired. She'll be arraigned at a later date.
Assistant Attorney General Stacey Kaelin said she couldn't discuss how the thefts were discovered.
A message left at a number listed in Champagne's name was not immediately returned.
