Coastal Hazards Commission Creates Panel Of Scientists

A panel of scientists will soon advise a new state commission on how to address rising sea levels on the coast and Great Bay.

The 37-member commission is made up of lawmakers, town planners, state agency representatives, and others from the Seacoast.  The members voted unanimously to seek scientific advice on increased flooding, intense storms, coastal erosion, and other weather events.

Addressing the group, Governor Maggie Hassan said that the state will rely on the commission for information on a complex subject.

Your work in some ways is going to be highly technical, there are a lot of things you have to bring to this process on behalf of our communities, changes to our laws, our municipal codes may be technical and will take hard work and I understand that.

The Coastal Risks and Hazards Commission was formed by the legislature.  Its first report is due November 1.
