Soldiers Land at Pease Airport

Roger Wood

New Hampshire U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte was on hand for the arrival of 117 American soldiers at Pease International Airport.Sgt. First Class Edith Canada of Los Angeles was among the troops to land at Pease, as part of a rest and recreation stint at home.  She has just returned from duty in Kuwait.

“My second deployment, and it feels great to hit U.S. Soil.  It's the best feeling ever.

She'll be returning to Kuwait for another six months, to finish her tour of duty.

Major Elton Brown is from Hampton Georgia, and is back from Kabul Afghanistan.

“Been there for eight and a half months.  I'll go back for another three months after a two week holiday.

The terminal at Pease handles troop arrivals on a regular basis.  But on this occasion, they were greeted by New Hampshire U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte.

“Obviously I come from a military family but most of all to see the Pease greeters, their dedication and welcoming home our men and women in uniform.  Anything we can do to thank them for their sacrifice and to make them have a little bit of home, while they're here.”

There are 4200 volunteer Pease greeters, and many of them were on hand for this arrival, providing food, toys for their children and free calls to their relatives.
