Writers on a New England Stage: Jared Diamond

Join NHPR’s Peter Biello for a literary conversation with author Jared Diamond for the latest edition of Writers on a New England Stage, a partnership between The Music Hall and New Hampshire Public Radio.

Diamond will discuss his latest work, Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis—an exploration of the role of selective change in history’s most resilient countries. A Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Diamond’s latest work blends psychology with history, economics and geography. His earlier bestselling titles Guns, Germs, and Steel and Collapse examine how civilizations rise and fall. Upheaval concludes this monumental trilogy with a psychological perspective on the ability of successful nations to recover from strife—with historical studies from the Soviet invasion of Finland to General Augusto Pinochet’s regime in Chile.

A noted scholar, Diamond has contributed to the fields of anthropology, biology, ornithology, ecology and history. He is a geography teacher at UCLA, a field researcher in the Southwest Pacific islands and an advocate for sustainable environmental policies.

Join Diamond and Peter Biello, host of NHPR’s The Bookshelf, on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at The Music Hall. For tickets, stop by The Music Hall box office, call 603-436-2400 or purchase online.
