New Program, Returning Favorite Coming to NHPR Program Lineup

New Hampshire Public Radio listeners may notice select changes to their listening routines, starting the week of Monday, September 3.

Changes to the programming schedule will impact five programs:

The Takeaway: Coming to the NHPR airwaves for the first time, The Takeaway bills itself as “America’s weekday conversation.” Each episode faces national issues head on, providing nuanced perspectives and featuring conversations with people from all backgrounds. Host Tanzina Vega brings depth and diversity through conversation and doesn’t shy away from tough topics.  The Takeaway is a production of WNYC Studios and Public Radio International (PRI).

          AIRTIME: Monday-Thursday at 2 p.m., starting Monday, September 3.

Science Friday: Science Friday is returning to the NHPR airwaves after a brief hiatus. Another WNYC Studios production, Science Friday explores the world around us through science and technology. The show takes an entertaining approach to newsy topics like physics, space, engineering, math and ethics.

AIRTIME: Fridays at 2 p.m., starting Friday, September 7.

Hidden Brain: Hidden Brain is a program and podcast from National Public Radio (NPR) that presents “A conversation about life’s unseen patterns.” According to the show website, Hidden Brain uses science and storytelling to help curious people understand the world – and themselves. The program’s host is NPR social science correspondent Shankar Vedantam.

AIRTIME:         Current Schedule: Fridays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 10 p.m.

New Schedule: Sundays at 2 p.m. (this will replace Live Wire, which will still air Fridays at 8 p.m.)

Fresh Air:This Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine discusses arts and issues relevant to today’s social and political climates. Hosted by Terry Gross and produced by WHYY-FM in Philadelphia, Fresh Air brings intelligent, thought-provoking interviews to the airwaves from the worlds of literature, film, economics and beyond.

          AIRTIME:         Current Schedule: Monday-Thursday at 2 p.m.

          New Schedule: Monday-Thursday at 3 p.m.

BBC Newshour: To accommodate the return of Fresh Air to its former broadcast spot at 3 p.m., NHPR will no longer air the BBC Newshour Mondays to Thursdays at 3 p.m. However, listeners can continue to enjoy the global perspective of the venerable British broadcaster, via both weekday and weekend airings.

AIRTIME: BBC World Service will continue to air weekdays from midnight to 5 a.m.

Saturdays from midnight to 7 a.m., 10 p.m. to midnight.

Sundays from midnight to 7 a.m.; 11 p.m. to midnight.

“We understand the importance of constantly striving for diversity and innovation in our programming,” said Michael Brindley, Program Manager at NHPR. “Any and all updates we make to the offerings on our airwaves are a reflection of our dedication to listener needs as well as our ongoing commitment to bring quality programming to New Hampshire listeners.”
