N.H. Community Colleges Eliminate Application Fees

NHPR Staff

Students applying to community colleges in New Hampshire will no longer have to pay an application fee.

The Community College System of N.H. says it is eliminating the $20 fee in an effort to remove barriers for students interested in attending college.

Up until now, students applying to multiple community colleges had to pay the fee for each school.

The system also says it is doing away with a $40 orientation fee, in hopes of getting more incoming students prepared for college classes.

The changes went into effect last Monday.

Together, the two fees generated between $300,000 to $400,000, said Shannon Reid, a spokesperson for the Community College System. She says the move is part of a wider look at cost structures and an effort to connect with students, and that the cost estimate will offset by student retention and uptick in students.
