House OKs Boost To State Aid For Charter Schools

House lawmakers have passed a proposal to boost state aid for New Hampshire’s charter schools.

By a vote of 177-124, the House approved a plan that would increase per pupil funding to half of what the average cost per pupil is among New Hampshire schools.

Currently, charter schools receive about $5,500 per student, or roughly 40 percent of the state average.

Four new charter schools are slated to open in the fall, bringing the total in New Hampshire to 22.

Clarification:  An earlier version of this story didn't point out that the bill next moves to the House Finance committee.
