Iowa, Florida and Virginia are the three most restrictive states in the country when it comes to voting rights for convicted felons. In those states, once you commit a felony, you forever lose your right to vote.
The Iowa American Civil Liberties Union says that prohibiting most felons from voting violates the state’s constitution. Today, the Iowa Supreme Court considers the argument. It’s part of a broader effort by civil liberties groups across the country to restore voting rights to convicted felons. Sarah Boden from Iowa Public Radio reports.
