How Tech Is Fighting Wildfires

Several people have died and nearly 1,800 homes have been destroyed in one of the worst wildfires in California history.

The blazes raging north of San Francisco have proved difficult to contain, let alone snuff, using manpower and tried-and-tested technologies. But in an era, and a region, where innovation is booming, many are looking to Silicon Valley for faster and safer solutions. Modern satellite, drones, lasers and social media are even playing a role.

Here & Now‘s Peter O’Dowd speaks with James Temple of Re/code about how the technology industry is stepping in and may offer solutions for the growing problem of wildfires.
