It’s now mid-September, which means there are about two weeks left until the fiscal year ends. If Congress can’t pass a spending bill by then, the government will shutdown. Hard-line conservatives want that shutdown as a means of rebelling against funding for Planned Parenthood.
Speaker of the House John Boehner has been less than supportive of that idea and there are reports that it could cost him his job. NPR’s Ron Elving talks with Here & Now‘s Meghna Chakrabarti about the next two week ahead for Speaker Boehner.
