The leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany are getting ready for peace talks to end the fighting in eastern Ukraine, but the fighting rages on.

Ukraine says 19 of its soldiers have been killed in recent battles. More than 5,000 people have died in the violence between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces since the fighting started last April.

The separatists want to break away from Ukraine, which Ukraine opposes. NPR’s Corey Flintoff joins Here & Now’s Peter O’Dowd from Moscow with details on the different agendas each side is bringing to the talks.
