Next month, the Governor of Indiana, Mike Pence, plans to launch a website called “Just IN,” posting stories about his administration and the state in general, and at times, breaking news about the governor.

As soon as the Indianapolis Star broke the story this week, there was a media backlash from reporters and others in Indiana calling it an effort to “control the the message.” Governor Pence has called the media backlash a “misunderstanding.”

NPR Media Correspondent David Folkenflik speaks with Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson about how budgets for statehouse reporting have been slashed across the country, and how a move like this could be used to shape the image of public officials.
