California’s Democratic Governor Jerry Brown squared off against his Republican challenger, Neel Kashkari, last night in a gubernatorial debate in Sacramento.

The hour-long debate featured topics including high-speed rail, environmental issues, prisons and teacher tenure. Kashkari blasted Brown for losing a new Tesla electric car factory to Nevada, and for his plans to bring water from Northern California to the south through tunnels.

A new Field Poll released yesterday shows Governor Brown has a 16-point lead over Kashkari, with 50 percent support among likely voters.

John Myers, senior editor at KQED News, moderated the debate and spoke with Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson about some of the highlights.
