We have seen increased participation at our open houses at the community college from a segment of displaced workers. Hopefully we can continue to offer a pathway to change for people like Chuck.   [more]
Because we work with many large corporations who saw the recession coming 18 months ago and began to cut back, we probably felt the impact earlier than most small business. We'd already decided to "Northsource" and moved the business to Berlin to cut costs. So last year, we looked at what we do well, what we industries we liked to work with, and what businesses might be likely to use social media and might not be as impacted by the economic slow down.  [more]
In November 2006, my 59 (soon to be 60) year old husband lost his job. This had happened to us before so we knew not to panic but to remain positive, however there seemed to be nothing out there and in the back of our minds his 60th birthday coming in February was looming over our heads like a black cloud. It boils down to this—how do we balance this generation’s needs against those of the next? There is no easy answer.  [more]
I am self-employed in the arts, and I've noticed the biggest hit job wise for me is with preschool and kindergarten classes. I teach music in private preschools, and with the economy, everyone is cutting back on enrollment or enrolling in public kindergarten when a year ago they didn't mind paying more for private schools.   [more]
