Results for cost of living
We moved to Bedford ten years ago to raise a family. We built out our small small ranch to add room for our growing family - three kids now under ten. My wages have remained flat making it difficult to keep up with the higher mortgage from the build-out and the increased cost of living. My wife and I have small business that makes a small profit and helps pay the bills, but leaves less time for me to spend with our children. When there is tension at home over bills, my two boys seem to have increased conflict at school and to lose concentration with their studies. [more]
I work in the legal department for an insurance company. My department has been hiring. Legal work is, in my experience, fairly recession-proof, so it is a safe bet during tough economic times. Because of this, and despite that it's not my favorite career choice, it's what I'm doing now for a living. The big snag is, in order to maximize my pay, I commute to the Massachusetts/Boston area. I would like to find a position with comparable pay closer to where I live, or in NH at all, but this has been impossible. [more]

The market for single family homes showed little change in February compared to the month before.
Just about exactly the same number of homes changed hands from one month to the next. January’s total was 529 and February’s was 536. The median price in February fell about 7% to stand at 200,000 dollars.
Homes stayed on the market a few days less but on average, it still took about four and half months to sell a house. Coupled with low interest rates, this remains a good time for buyers.
The February unemployment rate was 7.1% for NH. This is one tenth of a percent higher than in January, seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed residents increased by 670 over-the-month to 52,880. This was 11,970 more unemployed than in February 2009. From January 2010 to February 2010, the total labor force increased by 3,190 to 746,400. This was an increase of 3,790 from February 2009.
