Results for charitable giving
 
The Friends of the Hillsborough Food Pantry was formed in early 2008, before the economy really took a nosedive. This group decided to raise $100,000 to rebuild our old, dilapidated & moldy food pantry building. The goal seemed attainable & fundraising began. When the "downturn" hit, the group was afraid the donations might stop and the project might be put on hold. But DESPITE the job layoffs, business closings, home foreclosures, etc....the group has raised almost $125,000 and the new building is almost completed.   [more]
Our household salary hasn't suffered, fortunately. But because we got married this year, we racked up far more expenses than usual. As we work to reverse the direction of money-flow in our home - paying the CC balances down and the savings acct balances up again, (it's slow, but the movement IS positive finally!), I find myself looking for tax-write-offs at every turn!   [more]
In the Upper Valley region many people are very fortunate and often the needs of low and moderate income families are less visible to the general public. The downturn in the economy has caused many to take pause and think about how others are struggling....many have reached out to help. I think that one of the positive effects of the downturn in the economy is that it has made people take a moment to consider what they need versus what they want and to choose to reduce their personal consumption to provide resources to others with real need.  [more]
