Upper Valley Home For Pregnant Teens Closes Its Doors

Teen pregnancies have been declining for almost two decades now, and the rates in Vermont and New Hampshire are among the lowest in the nation. While that may be good news, it's also one reason a residential program for teen mothers in Lebanon, New Hampshire is closing its doors. That will leave some teens without social services they have come to depend on.

N.H.'s New DUI Law Covering Prescription Drugs Goes Into Effect Jan. 1

Starting  Jan. 1, driving under the influence of prescription drugs, over the counter medications or any other chemical substances is a crime in New Hampshire.

Law enforcement officials say the change will help them prosecute drivers impaired by drugs not previously covered under state law.  Lawmakers expanded the state’s driving under the influence law in 2012 and Gov. Lynch signed it into law last June.

Who Knew? Fireworks Better In Winter

Fireworks will light up the night sky tonight around New Hampshire.

Many New Hampshire towns and cities usher in the new year tonight with fireworks displays. Turns out, winter is actually a great time of year for shows.

"The fireworks burn much cleaner. The colors are a bit brighter, because you don’t have the humid air," says Stephen Pelkey, CEO of Atlas Pyro Vision. "And it just makes for a wonderful backdrop."

The Jaffrey-based company is putting on 35 shows across New England tonight. Check local listings for events in your area.

N.H. Lawmaker Wants To Make Training A Prerequisite To Owning Firearms

A New Hampshire lawmaker wants to make it a requirement for those purchasing firearms to have to go through safety training first.

State representative Cynthia Sweeney filed her request for the legislation prior to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

But Sweeney, a Charlestown Democrat, says the tragedy makes the need for training those who own firearms more pressing.

Sweeney’s legislation would make it a requirement for anyone purchasing or acquiring a firearm to attend a gun safety course.

Nashua Telegraph, N.H.'s Second-Largest Newspaper, Up For Sale

The Nashua Telegraph is on the market.

Publisher Terrence L. Williams announced on Friday that the Telegraph's parent company, Independent Publications Inc., has put the newspaper up for sale.

Williams say the sale will not change the newspaper's role in the Nashua community.

The Telegraph reports that Independent Publications, based in Pennsylvania, has put its other holdings on the market, including other newspaper publications.
