Tweeting the 2012 Campaign...In Rhyme

Last month, Twitter launched its political index, a daily  measurement of twitter users' feelings towards the candidates drawn from nearly two million tweets each week. So far, the index is running parallel with Gallup Polls. A number of political junkies are way ahead of the index, they’ve been following  novelist Elinor Lipman’s daily political poems since April.  Lipman is author of nine novels and a new book of humor called Tweet Land of Liberty .

The No-Votes

A new survey shows as many as ninety million Americans are likely to sit out this election.  They cite a number of reasons from “I’m too busy” to “my vote doesn’t matter”.  But in a tight election, these voters could have a profound impact on the outcome.  We’ll look closer at this group, why they feel the way they do, and the implications for our democracy.

New Filings Show Finances for Candidates, But Not For Independent Groups

The political ad barrage is here. Watch a TV show or check out a YouTube video and you’re likely to see the commercials. Same goes for fliers in the mail or yard signs on street corners.

Those ads and signs mean campaign money is flowing into the state, and this past Wednesday, New Hampshire candidates filed their latest campaign finance reports. 

NHPR correspondent Brian Wallstin joins All Things Considered host Brady Carlson with a little of what’s in those reports.

Outside Spending Plays Large Role In N.H. Campaigns

In the days leading up to the Sept. 11 primary, a Manchester-based political action committee called New Hampshire Republicans for Freedom and Equality launched a direct-mail campaign to support the re-election of 40 Republican House members who helped turn back efforts to repeal the state's same-sex marriage law.

Judge Sets Friday Deadline For Voter Registration Agreement

The N.H. League of Women Voters contends language on voter registration forms is confusing and could hurt attendance at polls.

New Hampshire’s League of Women Voters could reach an agreement with the state soon on a controversial addition to voter registration forms.  This following Wednesday’s hearing in Strafford County Superior Court. 

The Strafford County judge has set noon, Friday, as deadline for an agreement.  The New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union, representing the League of Women Voters and four college students—recently filed suit against the state.
