Attorneys are expected to file suit in Federal Court possibly as early as tomorrow charging the state with discrimination.

Attorneys Call DMV Policy Unconstitutional

By Dan Gorenstein on Friday, June 18, 2004.

The Department of Motor Vehicles wants to formalize a state practice that requires all non-US citizens to report to Concord to get their drivers licenses.

But the DMV must first get Legislative approval.

Motor vehicle officials will meet with lawmakers tomorrow/Friday to discuss the plan.

Critics say the measure violates equal protection clause of the Constitution.

The DMV argues that's not the case at all.
