University System of New Hampshire Chancellor Stephen Reno

Since August of 2000, Stephen Reno has headed the University System of New Hampshire, overseeing Granite State College, Keene State College, Plymouth State University and the University of New Hampshire. He’s worked to make the colleges more affordable for new students, and keep those students in-state once they’ve graduated through the 55% Initiative. Now as he prepares for his retirement, we’ll look back at Reno's time as Chancellor and look at what may be ahead for our state’s public colleges.

Words and Pictures - Beyond Brown Paper

Since the pulp mill in Berlin closed several years ago, residents there have been trying to figure out what’s next for the City that Trees Built.

But Plymouth State University is working on a project that spotlights Berlin’s past.

At the turn of the last century, the Brown Company, which owned the mills hired photographers to document life in and around the city.

The PSU Project is making those thousands of photographs available online and asking for help in telling the pictures stories.

NHPR Correspondent Sean Hurley reports.

Plymouth State University Goes Green With New Dorm

Plymouth State University has signed a climate commitment initiative to reduce greenhouse gases on campus.

As part of that, the university also announced that its newest residence hall is the first in the state to earn one of the highest standards for green building.

Library Collections Could Soon Be on the Web

Plymouth State University, Monday, shared the stage with the University of Washington, Rensselaer Polytechnic, and Yale as some of the ten winners of the first annual Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration.

PSU won the 50 thousand dollar prize thanks to the work of Casey Bisson who has a joint appointment with PSU's library and it's Information Techonology department.

Bisson describes his programming invention to NHPR's Mark Bevis.

Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

David Hare's play The Blue Room puts sex under the microscope. In this adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 work, Reigen, the characters experience the futility and desperation of searching for life's answer's through carnal pleasure. Now Plymouth State University's Theater Department is exposing the work to New Hampshire audiences. We'll talk with the play's director and dramaturge about sex, society and breaking down taboos.

Rugby Women at PSU Head to Nationals

There are a few collegiate sports that generally attract quite a bit of attention from their fans, like football, basketball and hockey. Rugby is typically not on that list. But at Plymouth State University, the women’s team thinks they might be turning heads. And understandably so. They are headed to California this weekend to play for the Women’s Rugby Collegiate Division II National Championship.

New Hampshire Public Radio’s Rebecca Kaufman visited the team at a recent practice and brought back this story.

This story was awarded an honorable mention in the 2006 Sports Special category by the New Hampshire Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

College Town Businesses Cry Foul

A new bill would tax on-campus businesses- like dining hall providers and hotels- to provide those communities with a new revenue stream.

THAT TENSION STEMS FROM A LONGSTANDING DEBATE OVER WHETHER THE UNIVERSITY IS PAYING ITS WAY.
