Story Archives of 'Dick Gephardt'The New Hampshire Primary -- After IowaBy Doug MacPherson on Friday, January 23, 2004.New Hampshire voters are weighing their choices in the wake of the Iowa caucuses. Conversations on the street show an electorate that knows what it cares about - health care, jobs, the war in Iraq. Some voters have made up their minds, but many are unsure of whom to support. We sent four reporters around the state to sample where people stand five days before the primary. In a moment, we will hear from Doug MacPherson, Dan Gorenstein, and Josh Rogers. We begin in Berlin, where a powerful labor union had backed Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt. Gephardt dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, and as NHPR's Trish Anderton reports, his supporters are now shopping for a new candidate. Manchester Remains A Primary BattlegroundBy Josh Rogers on Friday, December 26, 2003.Manchester is New Hampshire?s most populous city. In terms of the presidential primary, it may also be the most divided. As is the case statewide, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean is outpacing rivals. But Dean?s polling margin in Manchester is not as great as it is elsewhere. New Hampshire Public Radio?s Josh Rogers reports how this fits with the city?s political culture. Claremont: A Primary Bellwether?By Raquel Maria Dillon on Friday, December 12, 2003.The city of Claremont might be best known for the school funding lawsuit that bears its name, but the Upper Valley community also has a particular reputation among political observers. It is a pretty good indicator of how well Democratic presidential candidates will perform in states after New Hampshire. Back in 1992, Massachusetts senator Paul Tsongas won the primary, but in Claremont, Bill Clinton was the big winner and of course, went on the take the nomination. There might only be about 17-hundred votes in Claremont, but they're being eagerly courted by the candidates today. As part of New Hampshire Public Radio's coverage of the primary around the state, reporter Raquel Maria Dillon talked with Claremont voters. Candidates Battle in BerlinBy Trish Anderton on Thursday, December 11, 2003.Congressman Dick Gephardt held a town meeting before a small but enthusiastic crowd in Berlin yesterday. Gephardt has strong ties to the Berlin area, and he has key backing from the local mill workers' union. But rivals like John Kerry and Howard Dean are challenging him for votes. NHPR?S Trish Anderton reports. Presidential Campaign Organization PhilosophiesBy David Darman on Monday, August 18, 2003.Every presidential primary campaign depends on a core of die-hard supporters across the state. Six months before voting day, the candidates are focused on building that base. How they approach the task is not simply a question of technique or money. Their methods speak to the candidates? assumptions about the way citizens participate in the political process. New Hampshire Public Radio?s David Darman looked at the campaigns of John Edwards, Dick Gephardt and Howard Dean. And he found three different very different approaches Gephardt in His Own WordsBy Jon Greenberg on Wednesday, August 13, 2003.From time to time during the presidential primary, New Hampshire Public Radio is playing excerpts of the candidates' stump speeches. Democratic Presidential Candidates on HealthcareBy Raquel Maria Dillon on Thursday, March 13, 2003.A recent poll from a non-profit healthcare think-tank, Kaiser Family Foundation surprised public opinion watchers. Line 'Em UpBy Dan Gorenstein on Tuesday, January 14, 2003.Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman is the latest Democrat to announce he is running for president.
