The disc contains an hour long documentary about radical Islam. And it was recently delivered to 28 million homes in election swing states inside dozens of newspapers, including two in New Hampshire. Critics say group behind the film is trying to influence voters with hate-speech, but others call it free speech. New Hampshire Public Radio correspondent Shannon Mullen reports. Three of the four unions at the state's largest newspaper are currently in contract negotiations. But after nearly a year and half without a contract, one union is growing increasingly impatient with management. He started as a news office boy under his father, a co-founder of the New Hampshire Sunday News and former editor in chief of the Union Leader. Later he moved to sports reporting, became an award winning editor and in June of 1999, took over the helm as Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief and General Manager of the paper. McQuaid's positions at the Union Leader has made him influential in the media, in New Hampshire politics and as a national influence in New Hampshire's "First in the Nation Primary". The State of the Newspaper BusinessBy Shay Zeller on Thursday, December 1, 2005.The New Hampshire Union Leader is offering employees a voluntary buyout plan to avoid layoffs. The move is designed to reduce payroll costs for the state's largest paper. We'll talk with industry analysts about how people are getting their news these days and how newspapers around the country are adapting to a changing media landscape. We're joined by Carroll Doherty of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and Greg Mitchell, editor of Editor and Publisher magazine. Later in the show we talk to Governor John Lynch about the passing of M.T. Mennino. The executive director of the Capitol Center for the Arts died last night. She recently recieved a Governors Arts Awards for Distinguished Leadership in her field. Verizon Arena Tosses Out All PapersBy Rebecca Brown on Wednesday, December 18, 2002.The Verizon Wireless Arena will no longer distribute newspapers. But Manchester's Hippopress Challenged that arrangement in Superior Court and won. Last month the judge ruled that the Arena must sell both papers or none at all. Yesterday, the Arena's management, SMG, had all newspaper boxes cleared out. Jody Reese is the Publisher of Hippopress. Judge Opens Arena To NewspaperBy Trish Anderton on Wednesday, November 20, 2002.A weekly newspaper in Manchester has won its fight to get into the city?s arena. A judge ruled yesterday that the HippoPress weekly has the right to be distributed at Verizon Wireless Arena. The arena?s management had signed an exclusive contract with the Union Leader newspaper. But Superior Court Judge Arthur Brennan found that if the Verizon Wireless allows one paper, it must allow them all. The judge gave the arena twenty days to stop distributing the Union Leader, or start distributing both papers. Union Leader publisher Joe Mcquaid said yesterday his paper will likely appeal. Mcquaid said the arena is not a public forum, and the Union Leader wants to protect its marketing arrangement. The Hippo Press took the arena to court yesterday, saying a contract allowing only the Union Leader of Manchester to distribute papers there is unconstitutional.
