In putting together our last set of weekly links of 2008, Here's What's Awesome noticed a lot of the links reflected a certain trait that makes so much of what you hear and read from Word of Mouth... ingenuity. That spark of genius that builds something out of nothing, that sees what isn't there and makes it so. We also had a link about zambonis that we didn't dare discard, so a little something for everybody - plenty of ingenuity and a dash of zamboni.

Preview of This Weekend's Women's Hockey Tournament

This weekend the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team heads to Minneapolis to compete in the NCAA Frozen Four. The team is ranked first in the nation.

UNH Wildcats Are Number One in Women's Hockey

At the University of New Hampshire, it’s almost expected the men's hockey team will be one of the best in the nation.

This year, however, it's the UNH women's team that has taken the country by storm.

The Wildcat women have not lost a hockey game since early November.

And they are ranked number one heading in to this week’s national tournament.

UNH Goes to the Playoffs at the Verizon Center

The spring thaw got an early start this year in New Hampshire… but while some of the ice has melted outdoors, it’s still hockey season. This weekend, the University of New Hampshire men’s team plays in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats are one of four teams in the Northeast regional at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. The winner goes on to the Frozen Four, on April 8th at the Fleet Center in Boston.
Joining me to preview this weekend’s regional is veteran sports reporter Jim Jeannotte. Jim, thanks for joining us today.

Talking Hockey with Rick Middleton

IT?S GOING TO BE AN IMPORTANT WEEKEND FOR THE HOCKEY TEAMS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE.

BOTH WILL BE IN BOSTON VYING FOR A HOCKEY EAST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE MEN PLAY THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS IN THE SEMIFINALS TONIGHT.

THE WOMEN WILL FACE MAINE IN THEIR SEMIFINAL SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

UNH WOMENS HOCKEY HAS BEEN REJUVENATED THIS YEAR.

THE TEAM JUST CELEBRATED ITS 25 BIRTHDAY.

AND THIS SEASON, IT BEGAN WHAT PLAYERS HOPE IS A NEW ERA UNDER A NEW HEAD COACH.

A Puck for the Blind

In recent years sports for people with disabilities have boomed. Adaptive skiing and wheelchair basketball are now commonplace. But some ideas, like ice hockey for the blind, have been slower to catch on. A group of Dartmouth students is hoping to change that. NHPR?s Trish Anderton has our story.
