New TSA Blog

The Transportation Security Administration has launched a new blog called Evolution of Security. It's stated purpose is "to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on innovations in security, technology and the checkpoint screening process." The site is less than two weeks old -- it looks like it launched on January 30th. So far, the online discussions have included rules about shoes, liquids, lighters, batteries, fake hips and the like.

Governor Announces New Hampshire is Prepared, But...

National ID Cards

Some people feel issuing IDs to everyone—U.S. citizens and visitors alike—could help authorities track terrorists. The cards could include anything from name and address to criminal record or visa status. But critics worry about giving the federal government such a wide range of personal information, and the abuse of the system that could occur. Laura talks with Jack Palmer, CEO of ICaughtYou, a software company specializing in internet monitoring, and Tim Lynch, direcor of the CATO Institute's project on criminal justice.

Governor's Commission on Security is a Week Old

State Safety Commissioner Richard Flynn is seeking to boost patrols on waterways and seacoast bridges.
He has asked permission to accept federal funds for the seacoast security unit.
The unit would include three new marine patrol officers.
Meanwhile, the Governor?s Commission on Preparedness and Security has completed its first week of work.
Fire Marshall Don Bliss heads the Commission?.he spoke with NHPR?s Trish Anderton.

Homeland Security

Monday, President Bush officially launched the Office of Homeland Security to fight terrorism in the United States. Its director will have to coordinate almost fifty different federal agencies to do it. We’ll talk about this new agency and how it intends to keep the U.S. safe.
