Dreams of a North Country Revival

It's been a tough few years for northern New Hampshire, leading many to look for new keys to economic vitality. A new prison’s already there; a new biomass plant is right around the corner. But other plans, like high-tech corporations, arts houses and more tourism, could be years away for a region many say needs a boost now. We’ll look at the state of the North Country’s economy and what could come next.

Evaluating Earmarks

They’re easy to criticize, these last minute spending items slipped into bills – in fact, President Bush has demanded Congress cut them in half! But many projects benefit from earmarks, from the University of New Hampshire to the White Mountain National Forest. We’ll look at the role this money plays and whether earmarks should be erased or embraced.

Congressional Handoff Series: Interview with Republican Charles Bass

Yesterday we heard from Republican Jeb Bradley, who lost his re-election bid on November 7th.

Next, we hear from Republican Charles Bass, who met an identical fate.

Bass served in Congress for 12 years.

He first went to Washington as a member of the Republican Revolution, the historic turnover that ended 40 years of Democratic control of the house.
