Story Archives of 'Wind Power'The Boy Who Harnessed the WindBy Deb Baker on Friday, October 9, 2009.
Off the Grid in the Middle EastBy Virginia Prescott on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
My mother often says that it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. A landmark project in the occupied territories of the West Bank is doing one better: turning on the lights. The Israeli Comet project is using solar and wind generators to provide electricity to Palestinian Bedouins in Susiya, in the south Hebron hills. It’s a desperately poor area, where high voltage lines supply electricity to Jewish settlers, but not to thousands of nomadic Palestinians. Comet-ME believes that empowering off-the-grid communities will build social and economic capacity, and may be one small step towards plugging into peace. Yossi Mossel is visiting the US to tell the story of Comet-ME and raise funds for the project. We’re catching up with him for our Next Green Thing series. But others suggest wind power is counterproductive, causes risks to birds and is an eyesore. We look at where wind is being used, why some are against it and its future on New Hampshire’s energy grid. Guests

The program gives homeowners who have installed systems as much as 6,000 dollars. But the number of projects could be slowing down, because some solar array installers are getting fewer customers than anticipated. NHPR’s David Darman has more. Here's What's Awesome: Wind Power Helmets, Crowdsourced IntelligenceBy Brady Carlson on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
Hi. My name is Brady Carlson. My family has been sharing awesome links ever since my great-grandfather, Silas McAwesome, opened up a small stand called "Hey, did you guys hear about this?" in Toledo, Ohio in 1909. Now, a century later, I'm proud to keep this family tradition alive on the Internet, through this column, Here's What's Awesome. I like to think great-granddad would be proud. (I also like to think this great-granddad actually existed.) Opposition to Wind Energy Park Isn't Gone, But It's LightBy David Darman on Friday, June 12, 2009.Noble Environmental Power’s wind energy park in northern New Hampshire has taken a big step toward getting constructed. New Hampshire’s Site Evaluation Committee has approved Noble’s application to erect 33 wind turbines on two remote mountains. The few individuals still opposing the project have little recourse now to turn it back. And there seem to be no bigger players looking to scuttle the conditions attached to the SEC’s approval.
