About Fresh Greens
NHPR has teamed up with Generation PRX and the Terrascope Youth Radio group at MIT to produce a one-hour youth special for local and national distribution. "Fresh Greens" will tell the stories of how American youth think about their relationship to the environment and their daily impact on our planet.
Generation PRX is a project of the Public Radio Exchange designed to support, connect and distribute youth-produced radio. Terrascope Youth Radio is a group that encourages radio production created by urban teens, for urban teens, about the environment—our world, our city, our neighborhoods, our schools. It’s radio about the big issues and also about everyday stories. NHPR’s mission is to help create a more informed public, one challenged and enriched by a deeper understanding and appreciation of state, national and worldwide events, ideas and culture. Together, this partnership is uniquely suited to present this kind of engaging and distinctive content.
This project invited youth radio groups from across the country to submit pieces for inclusion in our one-hour special. A call for entries was released to youth groups and they have sent a number of interesting, thoughtful and well produced pieces for inclusion in the show. The following youth radio groups will have their work included in our program:
Terrascope Youth Radio – Cambridge, MA
Youth Radio – Oakland, CA
Youth Spin – Austin, TX
Blunt Youth Radio – Portland, ME
OutLoud Radio – San Francisco, CA
Alaska Teen Media Institute – Anchorage, AK
In addition, our hosts Hichem Hadjeres and Manon Bonnet from Terrascope Youth Radio conducted an interview with Van Jones, founder of Green For All and current Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
