The Story of Bill W. and Alcoholics Anonymous

By Mike Arnold on Friday, March 26, 2004.

Alcoholics Anonymous started out in 1935 with the meeting of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, two alcoholics who found that through fellowship and following a 12-step program of recovery, could stop their drinking. Almost 70 years later, Alcoholic Anonymous has 100,000 groups and 2 million members worldwide. Mike Arnold's guest is Susan Cheever, author of "My Name is Bill: Bill Wilson - His Life and the Creation of Alcoholics Anonymous".
