A Southern Writer Living in New Hampshire

By John Walters on Tuesday, March 4, 2003.

As a Greek child in the segregated South, Cleopatra Mathis found herself caught between two races. Today she finds herself as a Southern writer living in New Hampshire. She has just received her second NEA fellowship and her most recent book, "What to Tip the Boatman" is now out in paperback. She joins John Walters to talk about discovering poetry for the first time and finding a voice of her own.
