Ernest Hebert is a writer and professor of English at Dartmouth College. He’s written eight novels; his most recent is “The Old American.” The novel was inspired by a historical marker in Hebert’s hometown of Keene; it tells the story of Caucus-Meteor, the leader of a band of Native Americans in the early 1700s, and Nathan Blake, the British immigrant taken captive by the band. “The Old American” is published by the University Press of New England.
