A Writer Faces An Early Death

By John Walters on Wednesday, February 13, 2002.

Eight years ago, Phil Simmons was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. He's outlived expectations, but his body has grown progressively weaker. He wrote a book, "Learning to Fall," about learning to live in the process of dying. We spoke with him one year ago, when his book was self-published. Now, it's been picked up by a major publisher. Phil's web site is www.learningtofall.com.
