From Telluride to the Seacoast

By Virginia Prescott on Monday, September 22, 2008.

This weekend one of new hampshire’s cultural gems marked ten years. The Telluride by the Sea film festival opened in 1999 with David Lynch’s The Straight Story.

Since then, some winning independent and foreign films have jumped directly from premieres at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado to screenings at The Music Hall of Portsmouth, giving New Hampshire audiences a rare chance to see movies that haven’t yet shown in New York. Last year’s films included Into the Wild, Persepolis, and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

Last week we offered a preview of the festival. Today, Word of Mouth contributor Garen Daly is here with a review of a few of those films - Happy-Go-Lucky, Helen, and O'Horten. Garen is host of the Frugal Yankee website and radio show, which can be heard live on WNTN in Newton, Mass.
