Next Green Thing: Off-Shore Wind Farms

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 16, 2008.

While the presidential candidates debate the merits of off-shore drilling to feed U.S. energy demand, some say off-shore wind farms are the real way forward.

While wind farm proposals have faced fierce oppostion in Cape Cod and Long Island — where some decry them as blights on the horizon and menaces to birds - Delaware is poised to become the first state with the turbines off its coast. Planners hope to complete the project by 2012.

Reporter Kerry Grens joins Word of Mouth to tell us more. She covers health and science issues for public radio station WHYY in Philadelphia, and she attended an offshore wind power conference in Wilmington, Delaware, last week.
